Looking for Candidate Contact Info

According to the FEC website, "VANBLOMMESTEYN, TIMOTHY" has filed for the NH-2 race. So far I haven't been able to pin down an email address, nor even a definite postal address. vanblommesteynfor congress.com is registered and parked, but there's no contact info. A whois on that site only lists a domain registry service. If anyone knows a good contact for Mr. Vanblommesteyn (not to mention his preferred spelling; I've found several variants), I'd much appreciate it if you could send me an email, so I can get the Gun Rights Questionnaire to him.

Added 6/5/10: Mr. vanBlommesteyn's site is live now, and has a contact form. Questionnaire sent today.

Marriott Lies: Still banning defensive tools
Late Monday afternoon an ostensibly apologetic and congenial Keith Thomas, assistant to CEO J.W. Marriott, Jr., told a Grass Roots North Carolina board member that Marriott had “stepped on a hornet’s nest” and promised to remove signs prohibiting lawful firearms in hotels nationwide. Of the Charlotte Marriott City Center, where signs posted during the NRA convention made inadvertent criminals of conventioneers, Thomas promised signs had already been removed.

He lied. The signs remain.

Personally, I generally think a private property owner can say how his property is used; although I can also make a good argument that his property rights end at your body. But this case was a little different. After entering a contractual agreement with hotel guests, Marriott unilaterally changed their rules – without first notifying their guests – in a way that would make anyone possessing a firearm a criminal. That's pretty damned disgusting.

Marriott can ban firearms. And we can respect their right to do that.

By never doing business with them.

I have stayed in Marriott hotels on many occasions. Not anymore.

25 Questions To Ask Anyone Who Is Delusional Enough To Believe This Economic Recovery Is Real
In what universe is an economy with 39.68 million Americans on food stamps considered to be a healthy, recovering economy?
In fact, the U.S. Department of Agriculture forecasts that enrollment in the food stamp program will exceed 43 million Americans in 2011. Is a rapidly increasing number of Americans on food stamps a good sign or a bad sign for the economy?

Rear-end collisions jump at red-light camera intersections in West Palm Beach
'In the name of boosting safety, not revenues, West Palm Beach issued 2,675 camera fines worth a third of a million dollars in March alone.'

I call BS. It's been known for many years that that rear-end collisions increase beyond the previous t-bone collision rate at traffic lights equipped with cameras. That's why redlight cameras are illegal in New Hampshire. Likewise, it's known that extending the yellow light interval by a mere three seconds drops all type accident rates dramatically, more so than fines.

So never believe the lying scum who tell you redlight cameras are for anything but the money.

INSTRUCTION/WARNING FROM THE FEDERAL BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION

Wow! I just got an email from FBI Director Mueller telling me that I have an 'overseas lottery prize' awaiting me. All I have to do is send some guy with a Chinese email address my full name, address, age, occupation, and $260 via Western Union. Then this guy will send me '2.3million united stated dollars' paid through a 'custom pin based ATM card with a maximum withdrawal limit of Three thousand us dollars a day'. I'm rich!

But I wonder why the FBI Director is using an sbcglobal.net reply-to address? And appears to have English as a second language. And oddly enough, the email originated from smtp5.freeserve.com. I would have thought the FBI Director would use the DOJ servers.

I've been hearing about these fake FBI emails, but I think this is the first one I've received. Or at least the first I actually looked at (needed something to do while resting from yard work). The scary part is that I've heard of people falling for these. Pitiful; this is one of the worst scams I've ever seen. This makes the Nigerian 411 letters look like Machiavellian masterpieces.

Well, that people are stupid enough to fall for a scam so clumsy does explain how Obama got elected.

'This isn't the sort of job that rewards competence'

TSA, that is.

Added: Just after posting that little gem about the competence (or lack thereof) of TSA screeners, I found this tidbit:
Pushy fliers may show up on TSA's radar
'Airline passengers who get frustrated and kick a wall, throw a suitcase or make a pithy comment to a screener could find themselves in a little-known Homeland Security database.'

So if you get frustrated by TSA's admitted competence problems, you get blacklisted so they can further abuse you. Except...

If you keep reading, it isn't just the poor frustrated traveller who gets listed. It's 'aggressors, victims and witnesses'. Complete with full identifying data, including home address.

The DOW in Gold
'For example, it currently takes 8.5 ounces of gold to “buy the Dow.” This is considerably less that the 44.8 ounces back in the year 1999. When priced in gold, the US stock market has been in a severe bear market for the entire 21st century.'

I have a handcrafted financial page that always displays spot gold and silver along with the Dow, and various individual stocks of interest, so this chart comes as no surprise to me. The market isn't 'up' relative to '99 in any real sense. That supposed increase is all inflation: Stocks are pricier not because they're better, but because your dollars are devalued and buy less every year.

Look at that chart and tell me the economy is recovering.

Mammoth extinction triggered climate cooling

Okay, now that you're done laughing at the patent absurdity that a tiny population of primitive hunter/gatherers armed with – at best – stone-tipped spears completely wiped out all the over-sized critters, that I'd avoid unless armed with a Barrett .50 cal, on the entire continent – including areas they hadn't even reached yet – let's pretend this is real. Now tell Gore to shut the eff up; we're just fixing what we broke 12,000 years ago.

Chicago solves murder problem

Yepper, Police Superintendent Jody Weiss is brilliant. In one swell foop, he has reduced Chi-Town's murder rate by 29%.

If you're killed indoors... it doesn't count.

Possibly, this is a proactive measure to protect Mayor Daley from prosecution, should he decide to carry through with his threat to anally rape a reporter and shoot him for the crime of asking how effective the city's gun ban has been.

Flock you
Community members can surprise their neighbors by paying a small fee for a flock of flamingos and having them put in their neighbor's yard. When the neighbors wake up, they will find the lawn ornaments, along with a sign that reads, "You've Been Flocked."

It's stupid, but harmless enough. Until some kid gets shot while trespassing. But this part:
People who have been flocked can also pay for "Flocking Insurance" to ensure that they don't become a victim of a future flock.
Someone needs to explain to these kids that extorting money from people so as not to be pranked is illegal.

Added: Here's an email address for Louise Tilley at the school: lwilley@lin-wood.k12.nh.us. Maybe someone would like to advise them that trespassing at night can be risky in New Hampshire, and that teaching kids that extortion is fine is not a good thing. In fact, the phrase 'contributing to the delinquency of a minor' springs to mind. Any lawyers out there with an opinion?

Remember the 'balloon boy' nuts?
"Sheriff's Office personnel had to help him lay out the balloon. He said he wanted to measure it to make sure it was HIS balloon ... as opposed to all the other silver flying saucer-type devices we have in evidence."

These people need professional help.

Bristol Palin to hit speakers' circuit
"Bristol Palin is hitting the speakers' circuit and will command between $15,000 and $30,000 for each appearance..."

Why would anyone hire a speaker whose sole claim to 'fame' is that she got knocked up as an under-age unmarried teen during her mother's failed run for the vice-presidency?

And she'll speak on 'abstinence'?

I do not think that word means what you think it means, Fezzini.

I think I'll sign up with this Single Source Speakers outfit. I'm far more qualified to speak about abstinence for fifteen to thirty grand a pop than that spoiled brat (damn it).

Gun Rights Questionnaire
Still a deafening silence from the vast majority of NH candidates in response to the Gun Rights Questionnaire. And I just sent it to Timothy Robertson (D), who entered the governor's race to challenge incumbent Lynch (D). We'll see.

Added 12:45PM: Robertson responded with a refusal to answer the questions. Actually more weaselly than Hodes.

Net Assets News
I heard from Near Space Press that the trade paperback release has been pushed back to June 10 so something can be done with the cover. I think they're collating reviewer comments.

Activists Protest Gore's Honorary Degree at University of Tennessee
In awarding the degree, UT Knoxville Chancellor Jimmy G. Cheek said the former vice president is "among the most accomplished and respected Tennesseans in history."

Cheek must have a definition of 'most' that differs from other Tennesseans' usage. This is the semi-incumbent who couldn't even carry his home state in a presidential race; a failed politician. He is (or was; he may have sold the rental properties by now) a slumlord with a record of code violations. His 'documentary' film has been banned from schools because the 'science' was so bad; even pro-AGW people are embarrassed by it. Gore pushes AGW because he happens to own a carbon-trade company that stands to make several large fortunes if cap & trade becomes law. He claims global warming is going to cause sea levels to rise catastrophically in the near future, but just spent several million dollars buying ocean-front property. And not in Arizona.

UT should be ashamed

road runner bounty hunter kansas

WTF?

I've mentioned before that I look at some of the search strings people used to find my website. Some of them are pretty obvious in intent (hint to NH politicians: I'm seeing lots of visitors looking for your answers to the Gun Rights Questionnaire). Some of them are... well, like the above string. If the person who typed that into a search engine would send me a an email explaining what you were actually looking for – and if you found it here – I'd very much appreciate it.

Jobs up 290,000; jobless rate rises to 9.9 pct.
The economy got what it was looking for in April: A burst of hiring that added a net 290,000 jobs, the biggest monthly total in four years.

Impressed?

I'm not:
A Note to my 600,000 New Colleagues

That's right; the "burst of hiring" was the government, the Census. The feds hired 600,000 thousand temps in March and April. Which means that there were virtually no new jobs in the civil market. It's all federal government growth. And your tax dollars are paying for those 600,000 snoops. On the bright side, these are temps, and they'll be out of jobs pretty quickly.

Still light posting, as I'm trying to concentrate on finishing the next novel, working title Bargaining Position. Hopefully, this one will be picked up, too. I think you'll like it. It's less overtly political than Net Assets
, strictly hard SF action/adventure.

And remember, just 8 days until NA's paperback release!

So the Pakistani Taliban is claiming responsibility for the NYC "car bomb".

Personally, I wouldn't want to be associated with that display of terroristic ineptitude. I mean, look at the "bomb": a couple cans of gasoline, a couple of propane tanks, and some fireworks. If this is the best they can do, with pipe-bomb instructions all over the Internet, they might as well pack up and go home.

Candidates decline to answer the Gun Rights Questionnaire

Gee, I wonder why that would be?

Back in January, I undertook the task of sending David Codrea's Questionnaire to all the candidates running for New Hampshire's 2nd Congressional District seat and for the Senate this year. Last month I expanded that to include the Governor's race.

To date, I have received responses from two House candidates; one of whom, the Libertarian, doesn't take his own run seriously enough to register with the FEC (no, I'm not a fan of the FEC, but it's what we're stuck with for now), and three Senate candidates. Again, the Libertarian hasn't registered; nor has the one Republican who replied. The Dem, Paul Hodes, sent an uninformative form letter and refused to answer the questions.

No candidate in the Governor's race has responded.

Listen up, pols: If your RKBA position is bad enough that you won't even answer a few simple questions, you can't have my vote. If you make it though the primaries and are on the ballot in November, and haven't answered the questions, I will make a point of voting against you (Hodes could answer at this point, but his actions in the House have already guaranteed I'll vote against him).

This is an important issue, and I'm not alone. When I look over my servers stats, I see what people typed into search engines to end up here. I see a lot of inquiries into positions on "gun control", "RKBA", and "gun rights". Often these include specific candidates' names.

People want to know where you stand. Tell us, or stand down.

A little reminder that Net Assets is now available in additional formats.
For the Kindleless, who don't want to wait another two weeks for the paperback release (last I heard, still on track for May 15), you can now get Net Assets in Epub (open industry format;Stanza reader and others), LRF (Sony Reader), and PDB (Palm reading devices).

Can you take this oath?

I did.
