The Department of Economics and Finance is uniquely situated at the College of Management of the Metropolitan State University.

Our courses provide a strong foundation in both theory and applications that are in high demand for careers in business, government and non-profit organizations. Economics is a social science that concerns choices made by individuals, efficiency within and among organizations, and allocation of resources. It offers essential analytical tools to evaluate managerial decisions and economic policies. Our macroeconomics and microeconomics courses provide a solid foundation in theory, and our upper-division courses allow students to pursue their areas of interest, which include banking and finance, the global economy, labor and diversity, health care, and the environment. Many economics graduates find jobs in business and government; some continue to pursue advanced degrees in economics and law.

Our Bachelor of Science in Economics program has two tracks: economics, and business economics. In additional, we offer a minor in Economics.

Finance affects all aspects of an organization, and financial considerations play a role in almost every decision. Finance involves application of tools and concepts from mathematics, statistics, and economics to financial decision making. The Bachelor of Science in Finance program is designed to not only help students gain proficiency in financial theory and application, but also enhance their quantitative, critical thinking and communication skills. The Finance program provides solid academic grounding in areas such as investments, financing and risk management, and prepares students for careers in corporate finance, financial institutions and personal investment services.

In addition, we offer a minor in Risk Management and Insurance.
