Student Parent and Resource Center

The Student Parent and Resource Center is committed to being responsive to student needs during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our services are offered in person and remotely.

Student Parent Center

The Student Parent and Resource Center provides inclusive, supportive services to students with dependents. We want to help you navigate the challenges of parenting while in school and have the experience and resources to get you one step closer to your goals.

The center is open for in-person use on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays, from 9:30 am–4:30 pm.. This space is reserved for student parents and their children. Due to the ongoing pandemic, we are able to accommodate up to 1 student parent and 2 children at a time.

Alternative child friendly spaces on campus will be available during and outside of the Parent Center hours of operation. To inquire about child friendly spaces on campus, please email us.

The center provides services to support student parents in the following areas:

  • Information regarding childcare services and funding
  • Support and resources for pregnant and or expecting student parents
  • Parent education workshops and information
  • Parenting library with child development resources and information
  • A safe space for children to play while parents are on campus completing their assignments
  • A computer lab and printing services
  • Lounge areas with, snacks, coffee, tea, refrigerator, and microwave
  • Resources for on and off campus for parents
  • Lactation room location, breast pumps, and usage information
  • Student parent supportive programming such as back to school supplies and holiday gift giving
  • And more.

Student Parent Early Childhood Program

This program provides support to students who have children under six years old. Student will receive additional support as well as monthly distributions of essentials and monthly check-ins with staff. To apply, use this link: https://forms.office.com/r/0a4T7w5761

Student Parent Early Childhood Program Objective: 

  • The program is designed to support Metropolitan State University students who have children ages newborn through five years. 
  •  Participants in this program will receive free infant formula, diapers, baby/toddler food and essentials for newborns through five years. 

Student Parent Early - Childhood Program Participant Requirements: 

  1. Students have children newborn through five years (under six) 
  1. Students must be enrolled at Metropolitan State University 
  1. Students have a 2.0 GPA 
  1. Students must meet at least one time a month within the fall/spring 2022-2023 (if enrolled) semester with Student Parent and Resource Center staff 
  1. Students must participate in at least 1 student parent resource program per semester (total of two)

Become a member

We ask that students complete an intake form one time per academic school year. By completing this form, you will gain access to services in addition to helpful resources and events on and off-campus. If you have not yet completed an intake form, please do so here.

Students that prefer to complete a paper form can email us.

Join the Student Parent Group

Learn:

  • what to expect from the group and share your thoughts;
  • how to exercise self-care while parenting (we know it can be hard!); and
  • about resources at Metro State and in the community

Also:

  • meet other students who are parents, our group facilitator, and other Metro State staff!
  • Have FUN and MORE!
  • Feel free to come for the entire time or just a portion of the event

  • Monday, January 23, 2023 (in the event of inclement weather, meeting will be virtual), 4–5:45 p.m., meal and networking begin at 4 p.m., group session begins at 4:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday, February 22, 2023 (in the event of inclement weather, meeting will be virtual), 11 a.m.–12:45 p.m., meal and networking begin at 11 a.m., group session begins at 11:30 a.m.
  • Monday, March 27, 2023, 4–5:45 p.m., meal and networking begin at 4 p.m., group session begins at 4:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday, April 26, 2023, 11 a.m.–12:45 p.m., meal and networking begins at 11 a.m., group session begins at 11:30 a.m.

Additional resources

Post-Secondary Childcare Grant: The Child Care Grant program provides grant funds to students who need assistance with child care expenses while attending school. The grant is available to Minnesota resident undergraduate and graduate students who have not completed 10 fulltime semesters (or its equivalent) enrollment in post-secondary education. The Child Care Grant program requires a separate application. For more information regarding the grant and or to access the application visit our Grants and Scholarships Page.
